Chairman: Deacon John Dukes

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45 - New King James Version)

"….You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them. It is not so among you, but whoever wished to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wished to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." (Matthew 20:25-28 - New King James Version)

Sensing the servanthood of our Lord Jesus Christ – and believing that Deacons are set apart to minister to the members of a congregation, serving as undersheperds ever alert to care for the well-being of the flock – we commit ourselves to serve in and through the Church He loved and gave Himself for. Realizing further that the role of servant is an honorable role, we will be examples of a servant after which others may model their lives.  Therefore, our Deacon role will be exemplified through every ministry in the Church.

The primary ministry of our Deacon body is the Deacons joining the Pastor and Church Staff in ministering to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of each Church member and family.  The Deacon's Ministry of Mt. Zion Baptist Church is a joint effort of Deacons and their wives (Deaconess) as servant Leaders. Their primary tasks are:

1)    Attendance: Faithful attendance of all Church activities and services for the week.

2)    Prayer: Faithfully praying throughout the week for the Church, her ministries, our pastor, staff and individual members.

3)    Counseling: Being available in the morning services for counseling of individuals making decisions.

4)   Guest Visitation:  Attending and being a part of the visitation outreach during that particular week.

5)   Hospital Visits:   Deacons will make  hospital visits and/or contact with Church members and their families who are in the hospital or having some sort medical procedure during the week.

6)   Crisis:    Deacons will offer comfort, strength and prayers to those who are grieving.
