From Pastor Montgomery Portis, Jr., January 2017

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us to victory in Jesus Christ. God uses us to  spread His knowledge everywhere like a sweet- smelling perfume."  2 Corinthians 2:14 (ERV)

Here we are with a new year ahead of us - an entire year to learn and grow. So where do we start? How about at square one: giving thanks to God.

The expression of 'thanks be to God' by the Believers always keeps us in a right relationship with God. The giving of thanks, by us, acknowledges that God is the source of all that we have, whether physical or spiritual. At the same time, it keeps us humble, for in giving thanks we are acknowledging that we must remain dependent on God for all that He gives us.

God is the source of our victory and we must, by faith, depend on Him for victory in our daily walk. The writer of Hebrews says "Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must first believe that He is real and that He rewards those who sincerely try to find Him" - Hebrews 11:6 - Easy-to-Read Version.

Jesus Christ has won the victory for us over sin -- the sin nature, the world, death, and the devil. This victory has been won through His death, resurrection, and ascension. This is the victory that gives us the Holy Spirit's power to say no to sin and yes to God.

God's victory is not a hit-and-miss provision. The text tells us that God continues to " ... Iead us in victory through Christ ... " It is victory that gives us endurance in hard times and the determination to keep doing God's will in the face of persecution. It is victory that makes it possible to forgive when wronged. It is victory that assures that there is life with God beyond the grave, and, that someday God will bring His plan for earth to a close bringing in His eternal kingdom.

God wants us to know that regardless of what we are experiencing, He sees us as victorious -. God wants us to cling to our position in Jesus Christ as we face struggles and experience failures. We must remember that in Jesus Christ we are always a victor.
Jesus Christ, our Conqueror, leads us in triumph. As we live victoriously, there will be evidence that we belong to Jesus Christ. We must seek to live a life that is pleasing to God and His will. Our words and actions proclaim the life-changing message of Jesus Christ's victory over sin and death.

Proclaim with your life to honor and respect God, to live in awe of His power, and obey His Word. Let your light shine in 2017 " ... before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" - Matthew 5:16 - New King James Version.

"Thanks be to God!!

By His grace and mercy He has allowed us to see 2017!!!"
